Khamenei mocks Trump’s remarks on destroying Iran’s nuclear capabilities

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has rejected statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump, in which he claimed that the United States had destroyed Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Khamenei responded on the social media platform X on Monday, saying:
“The American president proudly declares that he bombed and destroyed Iran’s nuclear sector… Very well, continue with this delusion!”

In a speech delivered the same day during a meeting with sports champions and Olympic medalists' excerpts of which were published on his X account in Persian Khamenei also commented on Trump’s recent visit to Israel, describing it as an attempt to "boost the morale of the desperate Zionists," as he put it.

He went on to describe the U.S. statements about Iran as "trivial," and stressed that Israel received “a slap it didn’t expect and couldn’t believe” during the 12-day war with Iran, referring to the unprecedented confrontations between the two countries that erupted last June.

Khamenei’s remarks come just days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced at a press conference in Washington that the United States had “successfully destroyed Iran’s nuclear capabilities” through military operations and cyberattacks.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have been escalating since the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal and reimposed economic sanctions on Iran. Tehran, for its part, maintains that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes and that its facilities are under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
