A young man was killed in a targeted shooting near his home in the city of Homs, after gunmen opened direct fire on him. Bystanders reportedly refrained from helping him, and he succumbed to his injuries.

Unidentified gunmen in a vehicle shot and killed Hatem Abboud, who worked as a security guard for the United Nations mission at the Safir Hotel in al-Wuroud neighborhood on al-Hibal Street, near his home.

According to our correspondent, the victim’s wife rushed to his side seeking help to save her husband, but received no response. Abboud died from the injuries he sustained.

Reports indicate that the victim was not affiliated with any party involved in the conflict. The attack is believed to have been sectarian in nature.

The crime sparked outrage among residents of the neighborhood, who stated, “It’s enough to be Alawite to become a target and even be denied medical aid if you're injured.”

This incident comes amid a continued pattern of attacks targeting various Syrian communities, particularly members of the Alawite sect. Homs city and its countryside remain among the areas most affected by such armed attacks, with no response from the Syrian Interim Government and in the absence of accountability, law enforcement, or consequences for the perpetrators.
