Amid developments in the city of Hasakah, Murat Karayılan, a member of the leadership of the People's Defense Center, emphasized the need to protect the rights of the Kurdish people, strengthen community organization, and consolidate relations between the Arab and Kurdish peoples. He stressed that the current phase requires political struggle, popular mobilization, and joint efforts to build a democratic society in Syria.

“Official Institutions Must Not Stand Idly By”

Those who are raising the Syrian flag in Hasakah today while engaging in racist behavior do not represent the Arab people. They are making calls and saying, “Let the state come.” But they must be told: “We are the state in the first place. Are we not the ones who carried out the integration process? We are partners in the state, and we are the state of this region. Who are you?” This question must be raised and answered. Official institutions must not respond to these developments with anxiety and hesitation. Instead, they must step forward, confront these individuals, and ask them: “Who are you? We will not allow anyone to create chaos here.”

Official institutions and authorities must not relegate themselves to a secondary position. Their officials must also fulfill their responsibilities. Institutions and political forces must speak out more, respond to these positions, shape public opinion in Syria, and continue the struggle.

The burden of the struggle must not be left to a handful of people; everyone must take part. This is not a time for war, but for political struggle, dialogue, responding to these positions, and popular mobilization. The Kurdish people must protect their rights. They have rights and a place in the Syrian government. Under the current circumstances, it is essential to represent the cause of the martyrs and continue following their path.

Our people have made great sacrifices. The blood of the Arab and Kurdish peoples has been shed together, and no one can reverse this reality or take us back to the situation that existed before. We must reach out to the families of Arab martyrs who were martyred alongside our comrades and strengthen relations and cooperation with tribes that have taken positive positions.

We know that there are individuals seeking to create chaos and provoke tensions, and we know who is behind these attempts and who supports them. Therefore, all institutions and public figures, particularly the families of the martyrs, must convene as soon as possible and strengthen their organization. More effective responses to these practices must also be developed.

Our society must become a force everywhere, one that possesses the will and ability to take action. It is true that there are protection forces, and they have a duty to fulfill their role, but they must not remain passive or present themselves as incapable. If they are incapable, why did they take up arms? At the same time, our people must also protect themselves, whether through their community strength or by organizing their ranks. No one should be left unprotected anywhere.

There are parties seeking to place obstacles in the path of the Kurdish people in Syria, and this is clear. However, the Kurdish people have carved out a place for themselves in this country through the blood of their martyrs. They can become a key force in Syria and continue their struggle with strength through the perspective of the Democratic Nation and the Brotherhood of Peoples. A foundation for this has already been established to some extent, and we must therefore move forward from the groundwork laid so far.

It is not enough to say, “We did this and we did that.” Responsibility must be assumed for the work that has been accomplished, and those involved must also be held accountable. The people responsible must answer for their actions. However, this does not mean leaving the field open to others. Rather, we must fill this space with democratic society and move forward through political and community-based work and struggle. The Democratic Society Movement must advance, grow stronger, and develop.
