The U.S. special envoy for Syria and Iraq said today that Israeli military operations in Syria must stop, noting that Damascus and Tel Aviv could reach an understanding that may include a non-aggression agreement.

Speaking at the Global Security Forum in Qatar’s capital, Doha, Barrack said Ahmed al-Sharaa was managing the transitional period under difficult circumstances.

He said, “al-Sharaa has no objection to reaching an understanding with Israel, including a non-aggression agreement,” adding that “such an agreement could eventually pave the way for normalizing relations between the two sides.”

Barrack stressed that “the chances of reaching an understanding between the Syrian government and Israel remain,” while clarifying that this does not necessarily mean a final agreement will be reached.
