The sixth convoy of displaced people from Serêkaniyê departed a short while ago, carrying displaced families from Newroz and Washokani camps towards the countryside of Zirgan, Serêkaniyê, and Tel Tamer.

The convoy includes around 640 families, comprising a total of 4,054 people, distributed as follows: 283 families, totalling 1,526 people, from Newroz Camp, and 359 families, totalling 2,528 people, from Washokani Camp.

The families are returning to more than 50 villages in the countryside of Zirgan, Tel Tamer, and Serêkaniyê.

Presidential delegation member Mustafa Abdi stated that the convoy had been provided with the necessary logistical and security arrangements for the return, explaining that the villages to which the displaced people are returning had been cleared of mines. He said the number of returning families would increase in the coming days to exceed 700, stressing that all displaced people would return to their homes before the winter.

For his part, Mahmoud Khalil, Deputy Commander of Internal Security for Security Affairs in Hasakah Governorate, noted that the sixth group of displaced people from Serêkaniyê had departed today to return to their areas, following the clearance of around 50 villages of mines.

Khalil also noted that an issue had emerged with the list of names of those returning, prompting reactions from the displaced people, and affirmed that it would be resolved. He further revealed that the displaced people in the seventh group would return to the city of Serêkaniyê itself.
