The Fourth High Criminal Court in Amed, Northern Kurdistan, affiliated with the Turkish authorities, sentenced journalist and JINNEWS correspondent Beritan Kanozer to one year and three months in prison in the first session of her retrial, due to the posts and news she published on her social media account, when she was a correspondent for JINNEWS.

A decision had previously been issued to postpone the verdict against her on charges of "propaganda for a terrorist organization." Her lawyer said: "Journalism in the region is a crime, and journalists who criticize the government and cover events are considered criminals, so we demand acquittal because the material and moral elements of the crime do not exist."
