Jazira residents commemorate martyrdom of revolutionary Haki Karer
The residents of Jazira Canton commemorated the 48th anniversary of the martyrdom of revolutionary Haki Karer, one of the founders of the Kurdish liberation movement. They emphasized that his martyrdom marked a turning point in the struggle and pledged to continue following the path of the martyrs.
The residents of Hasaka, Dêrik, Tirbespiyê, Girkê Legê, Çil Agha, Amuda, and Qamishlo in Jazira Canton held a series of gatherings under the slogan “The Legacy of the Martyrs of May 15 is the Will of the 12th Congress.” The events were organized by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Councils of Martyrs’ Families to mark the 48th anniversary of Haki Karer’s martyrdom, a key founder of the Kurdish liberation movement.
The Hasaka event was held at Rasho Hall, while in Tirbespiyê it was held at the PYD hall, in Çil Agha at the Culture and Arts Center, in Dêrik at the indoor Kornish Stadium, in Girkê Legê at the Aram Tigran Center for Culture and Arts in Romilan, in Amuda at the PYD building, and in Qamishlo at the Royal Hall.
Each gathering began with a moment of silence in tribute to the martyrs, followed by screenings of documentaries about the struggle and resistance of martyr Haki Karer, as well as images of martyrs from North and East Syria who were martyred in various times and places.
During the gatherings, speeches were delivered highlighting Haki Karer’s revolutionary journey, his role in founding the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), and the stages of struggle he led from the beginning of the movement until his martyrdom.
The speakers stressed that “Martyr Haki Karer believed that the Kurdish revolution is the key to the liberation movements of all peoples, and that his martyrdom was a historic turning point that helped deepen the political and organizational consciousness of the Kurdish liberation movement.”
The gatherings concluded with attendees chanting, “Long live the resistance of Leader Apo,” “No life without the Leader,” and “Martyrs are immortal.”
