Iranian Authorities launch new arrest campaign in E. Kurdistan

According to a statement by the Kurdistan Human Rights Organization, the Iranian authorities began a new campaign of arrests targeting Kurds in Eastern Kurdistan, detaining four Kurdish citizens over the past four days without presenting any legal orders.

The statement explained that on October 28, Iranian security forces raided the home of Ayoub Rashe from the village of Barastan in Sardasht, Eastern Kurdistan, and arrested him without any legal justification before transferring him to Urmia Prison.

The organization confirmed that the Iranian authorities have provided no information to the detainee’s family regarding his whereabouts or condition, despite repeated inquiries.

On October 30, Iranian forces also arrested Wahab Mohammadpour, Raouf Faroukhi, and Rahim Rahmani in the city of Piranshahr, Eastern Kurdistan, and transferred them as well to Urmia Prison.

Authorities reportedly demanded that Awareh Faroukhi surrender himself as part of the same campaign.

The statement added that Iranian security forces used drones during the raids, breaking windows and doors of detainees’ homes in Piranshahr, Urmia, and Sardasht, in an apparent attempt to intimidate residents. Some property was also confiscated during the operations.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Organization noted that over the past three days, an additional twelve people were arrested, most of them relatives of political activists.

Iran remains one of the countries with the highest rates of political detentions. Opposition to the ruling regime can result in execution by hanging, and the country is ranked among the world’s most repressive regarding freedom of expression and opinion.
