IED blast outside home of former faction leader

An explosion was heard at dawn today in the village of Al-Ajami, in the western countryside of Daraa. It was later determined that an explosive device had been planted at the entrance to the home of Adham Al-Barazi—locally known as "Adham Al-Zainab"—a former leader within the "Central Committee" formed to negotiate and reach settlements with the Ba'athist regime.

According to local sources, the device detonated as his brother, Issam Al-Barazi, was driving his vehicle into the property, causing him injuries. There have been no confirmed reports of other casualties or information regarding the party responsible for planting the device.

Local sources later reported that Issam Al-Barazi had died from the injuries sustained in the explosion, although his family had not officially confirmed this information at the time of writing.

Adham Al-Barazi hails from the village of Al-Ajami and has emerged in recent years as a leader of groups affiliated with what was known as the "Central Committee" in the western countryside of Daraa.

In March 2025, the western countryside of Daraa witnessed tensions between the General Security Service and groups formerly affiliated with the Central Committee. This followed the detention of Adham Al-Barazi by General Security forces in the town of Masakin Jalin; he was subsequently released after groups linked to the Committee detained approximately 20 members of the General Security Service.

The circumstances surrounding the planting of the device and the identity of those behind the bombing remain unclear, occurring amidst a backdrop of sporadic security incidents and mutual targeting operations in parts of the western Daraa countryside.
