HPG downs drone over Qandil

The HPG stated that its forces are strictly adhering to the ceasefire decision "taken by our party, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which was announced after the historic call made by leader Abdullah Ocalan."

In a statement released by the media center of the forces today, they added: "However, despite this, the Turkish army has intensified its reconnaissance activities around our regions, continuing airstrikes and artillery shelling. Every reconnaissance activity is an attack because it is a preparatory action for an assault."

The statement further reported: "Since the ceasefire announcement, the Turkish army has attacked 8 times with prohibited weapons, conducted 93 airstrikes, and launched 5052 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery, and mortar shells on the Medya defense areas."

The statement confirmed: "In response, the Martyr Delal air defense unit of our forces shot down the Akinci drone, which was flying at a high altitude over Qandil, at 19:20 on March 16, 2025. The Turkish state had believed this drone could not be downed."

The statement also clarified: "If these attacks continue, it is our right to down such reconnaissance drones for defensive purposes, and this mission will be carried out."
