Delfin Abdulaziz Othman, a survivor of the 2015 attack targeting Newroz celebrants in Al-Hasakah, continues to take part in the eve celebrations of Newroz. She prepares songs, flags, and the Newroz flame, and wears traditional Kurdish clothing without regard to systematic intimidation. Meanwhile, a Kurdish activist stressed that targeting Kurds only strengthens their commitment to their cause and unity in Kurdistan, and that the Newroz flame remains a symbol of freedom despite repeated attempts at suppression. Mothers of detainees and missing members of the Syrian Democratic Forces and Internal Security Forces in Çil Axa have called on the Syrian Interim Government to release their sons. (Photos and videos attached).

According to sources and testimonies, the Syrian Interim Government is following an approach of replacing experienced staff with new employees who do not meet competence standards. Recruitment is reportedly based on nominations and affiliations rather than qualifications. There is also pressure being placed on current employees to force them to leave their jobs.

Eight years after their forced displacement from Afrin, the displaced residents continue to live in hope of a safe return. They await the day they can go back to their city, while their hearts remain attached to Afrin—steadfast despite harsh conditions and committed to reclaiming their land and identity. As part of the Newroz celebrations, the Democratic Union Party (PYD) will light the Newroz flame in the city of Çil Axa in front of its office at 9:00 PM. The flame will also be lit in the Qadour Bek and Corniche neighborhoods in the city of Qamishlo at 8:00 PM. (Photos and videos attached).
