The People’s Municipality in Qamishlo explained the reasons behind the garbage accumulation crisis witnessed in the city in recent weeks, stating that the problem resulted from several factors, most notably the termination of the cleaning company’s contract, theft of landfill and collection vehicles, shortage of workers and machinery, and the arrival of large numbers of displaced people. The municipality pledged to end the crisis within a maximum of 10 days.

Kurds commemorate May 18 each year as “Martyrs’ Day,” regarded as one of the most significant historical milestones in the struggle of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, honoring the martyrs who played a key role in consolidating resistance and struggle. The month of May holds a special place in Kurdish revolutionary memory due to the martyrdom of prominent figures and leaders and pivotal transformations extending from the beginnings of the “Apoist Group” to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s declaration during its 12th Congress in May 2025 of a transition to a new political phase.

On the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, the Martyrs’ Families Council in Garkê Legê will hold a public gathering at the Aram Tigran Center for Culture and Arts in Rimelan. The Martyrs’ Families Council in Çil Axa will also hold a public meeting at the Democratic Union Party (PYD) office, while the Martyrs’ Families Council in Tirbespiyê will organize a public gathering at 11:00 a.m. Additionally, the Martyrs’ Families Council in Qamishlo will hold a public meeting at the Martyr Delil Sarukhan Shrine Hall at 5:30 p.m. (Photos and videos attached).
