German Parliament discusses reinforcing Syrian women, components representation

The German Parliament held a session with the participation of the co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department Ilham Ahmed, and the commander of the Women's Protection Units Rohlat Afrin, along with German MPs, to discuss the implementation of the January 29th Agreement held between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Government, in addition to reinforcing the representation of women and communities in Syrian institutions.

A session was held on Wednesday in the German Parliament, attended by Ilham Ahmed; the co-chair of the Foreign Relations Departmen, and Rohlat Afrin; the commander of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), along with several members of parliament from various parties, including Bodo Ramelow, the vice president of the Bundestag, Cansu Özdemir, Kasım Tahir Salih, Lukas Hoffmann, Lamia Khaddour, and Alaa Hamwi.

The participants focused on the implementation of the January 29th Agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Interim Government, and the accompanying political, security, and humanitarian challenges. Emphasis was placed on ensuring education in the mother tongue, protecting the cultural and political rights of the Kurdish people and other components, enhancing the representation of women and other groups in Syrian institutions, and addressing the situation of captives, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and the needs of affected areas.

The attendees also discussed the role of the YPJ in supporting stability and security, as well as concerns about a security vacuum and the potential resurgence of ISIS during the ongoing integration process between the SDF and the Syrian Interim Government.
