Garkê Legê residents call for constitutional recognition of Kurdish rights

Speaking to ANHA Agency, several citizens in the city of Garkê Legê in the Jazira Canton emphasized the need to explicitly and clearly include the rights of the Kurdish people in a new Syrian constitution.

In this context, citizen Bashir Ali explained that the recent Decree No. 13 is not sufficient to guarantee Kurdish rights, noting that the Kurdish people are an indigenous nation living on their own land.

He stressed that Kurds deserve to have their rights safeguarded within a constitution that reflects Syria’s pluralistic reality, expressing hope that the next phase will be based on democratic foundations ensuring equality among all components.

For his part, citizen Matin Ali affirmed that rights should not remain within the scope of statements, but must be firmly and definitively established in the constitution.

He pointed out that the Kurdish people are a historical part of the Syrian social fabric and have the right to be officially recognized, with their rights guaranteed in practice.

Meanwhile, citizen Hussein Hajo noted that the upcoming phase requires a comprehensive constitutional framework that guarantees the rights of Kurds and all components of the Syrian people.

Hajo concluded by stressing the necessity of formally enshrining these rights in a way that leaves no room for interpretation, thereby promoting justice and consolidating the principle of national partnership.
