Funeral rites of martyr Leader Nour al-Din Sofi commence with huge public interest

Tens of thousands of citizens in all of North and East Syria, from Kobani to the city of Derik, participated in the funeral of leader Nour al-Din Sofi, a great leader of the Rojava Revolution. The funeral was held at the "Martyrs' Stadium of March 12" in Qamishlo in al-Jazira Canton of North and East Syria.

The ceremony was also visited by the representatives of various regions of North and East Syria, including the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, the Syrian Democratic Council, the Syrian Democratic Forces, the People's and Women's Protection Units, and delegations of Kurdish, Arab, Syriac, and Armenian parties. National figures, Arab and Kurdish tribal leaders, and mothers of martyrs, also carried the leader's image, with dozens of media outlets showing up to cover the farewell ceremony.

The coffin of martyr Nour al-Din Sofi was draped in wreaths, and the mourners chanted slogans lauding the martyrs' grandeur, such as "Martyrs are Alive."

The procession was opened in the ceremony by the People's Protection Units (YPG), the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Freedom leader Nour al-Din Sofi, one of the key figures in the battle for freedom of Rojava and the population of North and East Syria, was martyred on April 6, 2021, after he went to the Kurdistan mountains in the Mediya Defense Zones to visit his dear friends. He was assassinated in an attack by hostile elements on his visit to the People's Defense Forces headquarters.
