Free Media Union: martyr Aziz Koyluoğlu students will continue his path

Today, the Free Media Union, in the presence of many male and female media workers in northern and eastern Syria, made a statement regarding the Turkish occupation state’s targeting of journalist Aziz Koyluoğlu, in the Rania region of S Kurdistan on January 27.

The statement was read by the co-chair of the Free Media Union, Dilyar Jaziri, while participants held up pictures of journalist Aziz Koyluoğlu, in front of the Muhammad Sheikho Center for Culture and Art in the city of Qamishlo.

The statement stated the following: “Once again, we received information and news about the martyrdom of one of our fellow journalists in an air strike by the Turkish occupation. This time, the targeting was against our teacher, our fellow journalist, and our role model in the free media, Aziz Koyluoğlu.”

Martyr Aziz is from N Kurdistan, and since 2000 he has been involved in journalistic work and free media. He documented and reported to public opinion in many regions within Kurdistan the crimes of the Turkish occupation state.

With the outbreak of the July 19 revolution in NE Syria, without any hesitation, our journalist colleague Aziz went to the region and worked in reporting the facts of the region.

Starting from Dirk to Afrin, he took his place in media institutions, working as an editor and managing many of them. He also, through his writings and analyses, exposed the policies of the Turkish occupation state against the region.

In addition to that, he worked to train hundreds of young men and women from the peoples of the North and East Syria region in the profession of journalism and free media in every way, and today dozens of them take their places as administrators for many existing institutions, and as journalists for many other media institutions.

For his pioneering role, the Turkish occupation state targeted him via a drone on January 27 in the Rania region of S Kurdistan, which led to him becoming a martyr.

The result of the work of our colleague, journalist Aziz, turned NE Syria into a solid foundation for building free media institutions. With his move from the region to S Kurdistan, he did not stop his media work and persevered in reporting the facts from our regions through his wide network of sources and communication in the region. Therefore, we are all indebted to our colleague, journalist Aziz Koyluoğlu, and to achieve his hopes, we will continue our media work without stopping.

We, in the Free Media Union in the North and East Syria region, offer our condolences to the families of our colleague, journalist Aziz, to his companions in the profession, and to the general people of Kurdistan, and we send a message to the attackers that today there are hundreds of students of the martyr Aziz who will continue his path in the free media.

We affirm that this targeting will not hinder the march of the students of the martyrs Aziz, Sayyed Avram, Ghurbat Ali Arsuz, Issam Abdullah, Dilishan Ibish, Rizgar Adanmash, Nazim Dashtan, and Jihan Belkin, in conveying the truth, and let the enemies of the free media know that no matter how much they try and through any means, they will not be able to stop them in conveying the facts and working in accordance with the legacy of the free media.

On this occasion, we renew our pledge to escalate our struggle and work more in the footsteps of the martyr Aziz Koyluoğlu, to expose the policy of the enemies of free media and the peoples of the region, and to convey the truth and struggle of the peoples against oppression.”
