Female detainees in Iran's Evin Prison go on hunger strike

JINHA reported that female detainees gathered in the courtyard of Evin Prison last night, on the second anniversary of the "Women, Life, Freedom" uprising that began after the killing of young woman Jina Amini by the morality police on the pretext of not wearing a headscarf, and organized an event, and women took off their headscarves and burned them while chanting slogans.

Narges Mohammadi, the 2023 Nobel laureate, posted the event on her official social media account, saying: “Tonight, more than 25 female political prisoners gathered in the courtyard of Evin Prison on the second anniversary of the “Women, Life, Freedom” uprising. They wrote slogans on paper boards and hung them on the prison walls. The slogans were chanted in the corridor and the prison courtyard, and the names of those who were killed and executed were read. The female prisoners also took off their headscarves and burned them in the prison courtyard, denouncing the oppressive policies practiced against women and the imposition of the hijab. The resistant women also confirmed that they will start a hunger strike on Sunday to support the Iranian people who will start a general strike.”
