ENKS slams massacres against Kurdish Families in countryside of Kobani

The Kurdish National Council strongly condemned the horrific crime that targeted the families of Rasho Bozan Kadro and Mustafa Othman Kajo—members and supporters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party–Syria—in the village of Kharab Ashk on the night of January 26, in the countryside of Kobani along the M4 road.

The statement said that the crime occurred “following the announcement of a ceasefire” and resulted in the killing of ten civilians from a single Kurdish family, most of them women and children, constituting a blatant violation of all humanitarian values, laws, and international norms.

The council stated that this criminal targeting represents a flagrant breach of the ceasefire and confirms the continuation of a policy of targeting innocent civilians, threatening de-escalation efforts and any serious attempts to achieve stability and security in the region.

In this context, the council appealed to the United States of America and the International Coalition to assume their moral and political responsibilities, to work seriously to consolidate the ceasefire, and to take effective measures to protect civilians and put an end to such crimes, which continue to occur without deterrence.

The statement also called for an independent and transparent investigation to uncover the circumstances of the attack, identify those responsible, and hold the perpetrators accountable, in a way that restores some measure of justice to the victims of the massacre.

The council further emphasized that the protection of civilians must be a top priority and that innocent blood must never be the price of any conflict or political agreement.
