In a statement issued today, Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif declared the cessation of involvement in the "strategic decisions" of the Druze sect in Syria, emphasizing the importance of their adherence to their Syrian identity.

Tarif stated that he had maintained regular communication with Druze sheikhs inside Syria, especially in light of the challenges faced by the community in recent times. He added that his communication aimed "to check on their well-being and offer assistance as much as possible, according to their own vision and internal decisions, which we do not interfere in or influence, hoping that matters will move toward the desired solutions."

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Druze in Syria out of "brotherly duty," but stressed his non-involvement in their "internal strategic decisions," as these are the responsibility of the community within Syria.

Tarif called on Syrian Druze to "preserve their identity and claim their rightful place in a united Syrian homeland," adding that they "know their interests best and are most aware of their priorities and decisions."

He also urged all segments of the Syrian people "to work together to rebuild and revive Syria for the benefit of all, while remaining vigilant against the long reach of terrorism that seeks to sow discord and disrupt Syria’s social unity."

He stated that the position of Syria’s Druze is to "support and stand by the community in Syria both regionally and internationally, and to continue advocating for unity during this critical historical phase, while reaffirming the importance of consolidating ranks, uniting voices, and rising above futile disagreements that weaken the cause and serve malicious agendas."

Tarif is known for aligning his views with those of the spiritual leader of the Druze in As-Suwayda, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, who strongly opposes the Damascus authority and has publicly criticized it.
