Iran confirms PKK Congress’ results as key step toward peace, stability

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, in an official statement, welcomed the results of the PKK conference, describing them as an important step toward renouncing violence and enhancing security. He expressed hope that the process would be effectively completed in a way that contributes to supporting peace and stability in Turkey and the region as a whole.

Baghaei added that Iran views political dialogue and respect for state sovereignty as fundamental to any path toward resolving regional issues. He confirmed that Tehran is closely monitoring developments in this matter and hopes the step will help reduce the tensions that have persisted for decades.

This announcement comes at a critical time for the region, as several parties are seeking to end armed conflicts and launch new political tracks that enhance opportunities for development and regional cooperation.

The PKK held its twelfth congress between May 5 and 7, during which Leader Abdullah Ocalan participated via digital communication, according to the party.

Yesterday, the party announced the results of its congress, declaring the end of all activities previously conducted in the party’s name, as well as the end of armed struggle. It also announced the martyrdom of two senior party leaders and founding members, Ali Haydar Kaytan and Riza Altun.
