Doctors from Southern Kurdistan provide medical care to IDPs in Qamishlo

A medical delegation consisting of 19 doctors from the cities of Sulaymaniyah and Hawler in Southern Kurdistan arrived in Rojava at the beginning of February, in coordination with the Health Council and the Kurdish Red Crescent, with the aim of providing medical support to displaced people and the wounded.

After spending two days in the city of Derik, where they visited displacement centers and assessed the conditions of the wounded, the medical delegation headed yesterday to the city of Qamishlo. There, they visited the headquarters of the Kurdish Red Crescent and the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of Jazira.

Today, the doctors formed five medical teams in cooperation with the Kurdish Red Crescent and the Health Council. The teams carried out field tours that included schools housing displaced people, where they provided medical examinations and necessary treatments.

In this context, the Co-Chair of the Kurdish Red Crescent, Delkesh Issa, stated that the medical delegation from Southern Kurdistan arrived in Rojava at the request of the Kurdish Red Crescent. He explained that the delegation is providing medical assistance to displaced people and the wounded and has brought quantities of medicines with them. He added that medical teams continue their work through 15 mobile clinics operated by the Kurdish Red Crescent.

For his part, Dr. Serko Khaled, a member of the medical delegation, pointed out that the number of displaced people and patients is large, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks, especially among children. He emphasized that medical teams are making intensive efforts to reduce these risks and provide necessary healthcare, stressing the possibility of more doctors coming to support the region.

The doctors continued providing treatment to displaced patients and distributing medicines according to medical needs.
