Detainees' families in al-Malita Prison demand disclosure of their children’s fate

The Syrian Interim Government has been holding a large number of civilians and military personnel in al-Malita prison in the city of al-Nabk, Damascus countryside, since the fall of the previous regime, without filing official charges or presenting them before the judiciary. Visits and meetings have been banned, prompting families to demand information about the fate of their detained relatives.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights indicated that most detainees were arrested due to personal disputes or suspicions, without any legal files or formal judicial procedures against them. Families confirmed that their children are held under unclear conditions, with no knowledge of the reasons for their detention or their places of confinement.

Previously, there were reports of the execution of several prisoners inside al-Malita prison in al-Nabk, which has heightened the fears of families who have renewed their demands to know the fate of their children. They are calling on human rights organizations to intervene to secure the release of their loved ones and hold accountable those responsible for violations inside the prison.

These developments come amid strict silence from the Syrian Interim Government regarding conditions inside the prison, coupled with the absence of judicial authority or humanitarian oversight over detention facilities in these areas.
