Democratic Society Confederation calls on Syrians to uphold their right to freely determine their future

The Democratic Society Movement Confederation in the region of North and East Syria issued a statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the start of the Syrian revolution, coinciding with March 15.

The Confederation's statement indicated that the revolution began as a societal movement aimed at establishing a democratic system that reflects the will of the people and ensures the genuine participation of all components.

It affirmed its rejection of the mentality that reduces self-determination to the hands of any party, saying that the Syrian people, with all their components, are the ones who made their history with their steadfastness and struggle, and they are capable of shaping their future with their free will.

The statement read:

The peoples and components of North and East Syria, along with all democratic forces in the Syrian homeland, commemorate the anniversary of the Syrian revolution, which expressed the aspirations of Syrians for freedom and justice and rejected tyranny and all forms of discrimination and exclusion. This revolution was a voice for popular demands for dignity, decent living, and the building of a society characterized by peace and pluralism, based on solid humanitarian values.

This revolution began as a societal movement aimed at establishing a democratic system that reflects the will of the people, ensures genuine participation of all components, and respects the rich diversity that Syria is characterized by. The dream was to build a participatory democratic model that respects pluralism and establishes a political life based on consensus and justice, not on exclusivity and exclusion.

On this occasion, we reaffirm our continuous commitment to the principles of freedom, justice, and democracy, and we emphasize our rejection of all attempts to reproduce tyranny in new forms, regardless of the justifications. Experiences have proven that any system that does not respect the will of the people and does not open the door to genuine participation for all segments of society will not be able to achieve stability or meet the aspirations of the peoples.

We call upon all members of the Syrian society to uphold their right to freely determine their future, away from any guardianship or imposition by any party. True liberation is only complete when the decision is in the hands of the society itself, which alone has the right to shape its path according to the values of democracy and pluralism. From this standpoint, we reject the mentality that reduces self-determination to the hands of any party, as the Syrian people, with all their components, are the ones who have made their history through their steadfastness and struggle, and they are capable of shaping their future with their free will.

Glory to all who have fought for freedom, justice, and a future for Syria that is democratic, peaceful, and harmonious.
