Politicians: building democratic Syria passes through DAA

Politicians found the autonomous administration model to be an approach that grants the right to govern and make decisions to all components, regardless of their affiliations, and organizes societies on the basis of justice, equality, and gender equity without excluding any party, with the goal of building a safe and stable zone.

Mayada Arabo, spokesperson for the Democratic Union Party's Training Committee, said, "Syria is going through a critical historical phase that requires caution, awareness, and greater organization to avoid falling into further crises created by external parties seeking to drag the Syrian people into them."

 She added, "We propose extending the autonomous administration project to the rest of Syria. This project has proven successful in various fields, whether in stopping the bloodshed, achieving peaceful co-existence among diverse communities, or managing all aspects of daily life. It is not limited to a single language or culture, but rather allows each community to obtain its basic rights."

She emphasized that this project guarantees the building of a democratic Syria in which the rights of all communities are protected without exclusion or denial of their cultures, in contrast to what happened under the Ba'ath regime, which led to the destruction of the country and plunged it into an endless cycle of crises.

She noted, "This project has captured the attention of both Syria and abroad, as we have witnessed numerous calls from different Syrian regions demanding the implementation of autonomous administration in their areas, as it represents the ideal model for resolving the Syrian crisis and building a free, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria."

For her part, Fariha Ahmed, a co-chair in the Democratic Union Party, explained that "what has deepened the Syrian crisis is the disregard for the autonomous administration project and its failure to extend it to all Syrian regions, despite its potential to solve many issues and problems."

 Freha emphasized that this project responded to the aspirations of the people of northeastern Syria, successfully fulfilling its functions and demonstrating positive results for the future of the region, especially after long years of repression practiced by the Ba'ath regime against the freedoms of various communities, and the imposition of a single language and culture on the diverse social fabric.

Regarding the difference between the state system and the autonomous system, Freha said, "The autonomous system is the opposite of the traditional state system. It grants freedom of administration and livelihood to all communities, disseminates a culture of diversity, and aims to build a moral political society that treats women fairly. The absence of these elements in the state system has prompted communities to adopt the autonomous system."

Freha emphasized the need to extend autonomous administration to all Syrian territories, viewing it as a successful experiment capable of safeguarding the rights of communities and preserving their existence, history, beliefs, and cultures, and achieving balance, justice, and equality between communities and genders.

She added, "This system is a remedy and a cure for a wounded nation that has been drained for 14 years, and our position is clear: we seek to unify Syrian territory, not divide or secede from it."

 For his part, Walat Maamo, co-chair of the Democratic Union Party's (PYD) Public Relations Office, explained the concept of autonomous administration, saying, "It means establishing and ensuring continuity on the foundations of freedom, justice, and equality. Its most important principle is the democratic nation. It is completely different from traditional authoritarian state systems."

Walat pointed out that the origins of the autonomous administration system go back to the lifestyles of ancient societies before the formation of civilizations and the state system, which led to wars and bloodshed.

He added, "This system relies on organization according to the characteristics and geography of each society."

Walat explained why the party adopted the autonomous administration project, saying, "With the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, we in the PYD chose this system, and based on it, we organized society. In this way, our areas remained safe, unlike other areas that witnessed chaos and corruption during the years of the crisis."
