DAA lights Newroz flame 2025

The DAA has officially commenced the Newroz celebrations for 2025 by lighting the Newroz flame in front of its administrative headquarters in Raqqa. The event was attended by numerous members of the administration, marking the beginning of the annual festivities observed on March 21.

On this occasion, the administration issued a formal statement, delivered in both Kurdish and Arabic by the Co-Chairs of the Executive Council, Avîn Swêd and Hussein Al-Othman. The statement read as follows:

"Newroz is a symbol of unity, resistance, and freedom, representing one of the most significant celebrations that embody the struggles of peoples striving for liberation. It reflects the enduring spirit of resistance among our people in this region.

The lighting of the Newroz flame this year holds special significance, as it marks the first celebration of this occasion in our region, North and East Syria, following the fall of the authoritarian Ba'athist regime, which relentlessly sought to prevent the people of this region from celebrating it. Therefore, this year’s celebration stands as a symbol of freedom and liberation from that regime and signals a new beginning toward building a free and democratic Syria.

Today, we reaffirm our commitment to continuing our struggle to fulfill the objectives of our revolution—establishing a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria that serves as a homeland for all Syrians without exception.

On this occasion, we extend our deepest respect and appreciation to the heroic resistance of our forces in the Syrian Democratic Forces and Internal Security Forces, as well as to our resilient people in Tishrin Dam, Qaraqozaq Bridge, and other regions. Your resistance has ignited this year’s Newroz flame and embodied the true spirit of Newroz and the Syrian revolution.

Furthermore, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to securing the safe return of our forcibly displaced people from Afrin, Serê Kaniyê, and Girê Spî (Tell Abyad) to their homes.

Once again, we extend our warmest congratulations to our Kurdish people and all communities of North and East Syria, particularly the families of our martyrs, on the occasion of Newroz 2025. We take this opportunity to call upon all Syrian people and national forces to unite in solidarity, working together to draft a Syrian constitution that reflects our collective aspirations and lays the foundation for a free and democratic Syria."
