A joint agreement was recently reached between the Education Authority of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and the Ministry of Education of the Syrian Interim Government, under the auspices of UNICEF. The aim is to organize the examination process for both preparatory and secondary school students in the Autonomous Administration areas.

Education bodies across the region have been making various preparations to conduct the exams according to the former regime’s curriculum.

Regarding the preparations, ANHA agency met with Khalaf Al-Matir, the Co-Chair of the Education Authority in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, who said: "Following the agreement with the Ministry of Education in the Interim Government to conduct the exams for both the preparatory and secondary stages in our areas, the Education Authority began coordinating with the educational bodies in the different cantons to prepare the examination process and the centers that will host the students."

Al-Matir added: "We began by opening six registration centers for the preparatory stage, distributed across the different cantons. Registration lasted for six days and has now been completed. Today, we began distributing the exam admission cards received from the Ministry of Education through a coordinated mechanism to reduce overcrowding."

He continued: "The examination process for the preparatory stage will begin on the 21st of this month. Afterward, registration will open for secondary school students in both scientific and literary branches. The process of transferring and registering students will be conducted in the same centers used for preparatory students, from the 22nd to the 27th of this month."

Al-Matir pointed out: "Afterward, exam cards and centers will be assigned according to the numbers submitted. The number of registered preparatory-level students reached 26,445, distributed across five cantons, and the centers have been fully prepared to accommodate them all."

He also explained: "There has been coordination with the Executive Council of North and East Syria to ensure the examination process is carried out in a way that reflects the efforts of the Autonomous Administration and ensures a successful exam process."

He continued: "The Executive Council has instructed the relevant bodies to take all necessary measures, including the Interior Authority, the Health Authority, the Education Authority, and the Federation of Municipalities in the region."

Al-Matir wished the students success in their exams, hoping it would be a step toward unifying efforts to build a united Syria.

Regarding the secondary stage, the Co-Chair confirmed: "All requests related to secondary school, whether for transfers or new registrations, will be received at the same centers previously opened for the preparatory stage."

Al-Matir expected that the number of secondary-level students would be higher than that of the preparatory level, noting that instructions were given to the educational bodies to prepare additional backup centers to ensure that no student in North and East Syria is denied the opportunity to sit for the exams and receive their full rights.

Regarding exam supervision, he said: "A joint committee will be formed, and a ministerial representative from the Ministry of Education will be assigned. The Education Authority will oversee the examination process, including assigning proctors, specialists, and secretaries who are qualified and responsible. Center directors will be appointed jointly by the Ministry of Education and the Education Authority of North and East Syria."
