The issue of Kurdish national unity is receiving widespread attention at the present stage, especially after the 24th meeting of the General Assembly of the Kurdistan National Congress on June 6 and 7, coinciding with the message sent by leader Abdullah Ocalan, in which he emphasized the importance of Kurdish national unity and the need to enhance joint work among various Kurdish parties.

In this context, political, social, and religious figures spoke about the importance of holding the Kurdish National Conference and the role of political parties in achieving Kurdish unity and meeting the aspirations of the Kurdish street.

Whereas, the member of the Bar Association, Alaa Fatemi, stated that the issues related to the Kurdish language and identity are still present in Hasakah and throughout Rojava and Kurdistan, and that one of the main reasons for this is the lack of a unified stance among the Kurdish parties.

She pointed out that the conference that brought together the Kurdish parties was a positive step, but external interventions negatively affected its outcomes and did not allow for tangible results that serve Kurdish unity or the aspirations of the Kurdish street. As a result, many parties individually headed to Damascus to meet with the interim prime minister, without a unified Kurdish stance or a collective political voice.

It emphasized the necessity for the Kurdish people in the four parts of Kurdistan to renew their support for the national unity project as they did before, and to call on their parties to unite their ranks and work according to a Kurdish agenda that serves their interests, away from external influences.

She also expressed her hope that Kurdish leaders and parties would be able to work together and speak with one voice, as unity represents the only way to face challenges and preserve the Kurdish presence, and the continuation of division threatens the future of the Kurdish people.

She called on the parties and political forces in the four parts of Kurdistan to prioritize national interests over party interests.

Alaa Fatemi pointed out that more than a century has passed since the Lausanne, Sèvres, and Sykes-Picot agreements, and she mentioned that global capitalism has been and continues to play a dirty game against the Kurdish people. However, the Kurdish people today possess greater political awareness than before, and they are capable of evaluating the performance of political parties and forces and working toward achieving their national aspirations.

For his part, Ibrahim Hassan, a member of the Training Committee in the Democratic Union Party, said that about 99% of the Kurdish people support Kurdish unity, but the practical efforts made to achieve it are still limited.

Hassan added that the forces that have historically worked to divide Kurdistan will not easily allow the achievement of unity, and of course, there are some parties that still prioritize their party interests over the public interest.

He emphasized that the continuation of the division will negatively affect all members of the Kurdish people.

He explained that the dream of the Kurds in the four parts of Kurdistan and in the diaspora is to achieve national unity, due to its importance and role in alleviating the pressures faced by the Kurdish people and bringing them closer to their political and national goals.

He also emphasized the importance and role of religious leaders in supporting Kurdish unity, by promoting the use of the Kurdish language in religious sermons, to preserve Kurdish identity and culture and to highlight the presence of the Kurdish people and their language to other nations.

Hassan pointed out that the existence of a gap between politicians and religious leaders presents an opportunity for hostile forces to exploit it in deepening divisions, and that resolving the Kurdish issue in Syria is a fundamental entry point for achieving stability and building a just state for all its components.

For his part, Sheik Adib Bobby, a member of the Shura Council of the Ahl al-Bayt Association in Ad-Derbasiya city, said that the Kurdish arena has witnessed disagreements and divisions in the past period that have affected the unity of the Kurdish front.

He expressed his hope that the Kurdish people would be able to overcome past mistakes and strengthen their unity in the four parts of Kurdistan.

Bobby affirmed that the unity of the Kurdish people is capable of overcoming the existing challenges and disputes, and therefore they must adhere to their identity, language, and Kurdish will.

He added that the Kurdish people, whose population is estimated at around 70 million, need a unified stance that preserves their rights and existence and enhances their political and cultural presence.

Bobby concluded his speech by emphasizing that the unity of Kurdish parties and forces is an urgent necessity to preserve the Kurdish presence and achieve the aspirations of the Kurdish people across various parts of Kurdistan.
