Calls for inclusive participation in drafting Syria's New Constitution

The MIT continues to sow discord among Syria’s components, aiming to perpetuate ethnic and sectarian tensions that jeopardize the country’s unity.

 In this context, ANHA agency interviewed several dignitaries from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo to highlight the importance of unity during this crucial period in Syria’s history.

 Badran Hamo, the administrator in the Council of Dignitaries of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, remarked that Syria is entering a new phase after 13 years of war, which caused displacement, death, and suffering for the Syrian people. He noted that the Autonomous Administration project has consistently demonstrated its benefits for the region’s diverse communities, fostering a strong social fabric.

 Hamo credited the ideas of Abdullah Ocalan for promoting concepts of coexistence and fraternity among peoples, which threatened the interests of regional powers, particularly the Turkish occupying state.

 Regarding the role of tribal leaders, Hamo emphasized:

"Meetings must be held across Syrian cities and regions to safeguard Syria from conflicts between components and religions. It is imperative to involve all communities in drafting a new constitution that protects their rights and identities in this pivotal phase for the Syrian people. This is essential to prevent the repetition of the Baathist regime’s mistakes."

Sheikh Ibrahim Abdo Khoja, the notable from the Amirat tribe, called on the current interim administration governing Syria to abandon the oppressive practices of the former Syrian regime, such as torture, abductions, and fomenting divisions among the country's communities.

 He urged decision-makers to consider the achievements of the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria, which has created harmony among communities and prioritized the Kurdish people without discriminating based on ethnicity, gender, or religion.

Sheikh Ibrahim described the Autonomous Administration project as a success story that unites all components to protect their homeland, offering a model for other parts of Syria.

 Sheikh Ibrahim Abdo stressed the importance of inclusivity in drafting Syria's new constitution, stating:

"We hope the new administration will not exclude representatives from any of Syria’s components during the constitution-writing process. The Syrian people are one. We must avoid repeating the injustice and exclusion of the Baathist regime, which governed with racism and marginalized some of Syria’s communities."
