Arrival of groups from al-Hol Camp to rural Aleppo amid uncertainty over transfer procedures

Local sources reported today that groups of residents from al-Hol camp located in the countryside of al-Hasakah and home to families of ISIS mercenaries have arrived in rural Aleppo. The transfers began after authorities and factions affiliated with Syria’s interim government initiated the relocation of families, while ambiguity persists regarding the number of remaining residents and the mechanisms regulating the transfer process.

According to the sources, a convoy of six buses carrying approximately 300 individuals most of them women and children arrived in areas of rural Aleppo near Akhtarin.

Newly released footage published today by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights showed that several sections of the camp appear nearly empty. Previous estimates indicated that the camp housed thousands of individuals of various nationalities, including around 15,000 Syrians and more than 6,000 foreign women and children. Some countries continue to refuse the repatriation of their nationals from the camp.

Despite the arrival of these groups in rural Aleppo, the government has not issued any official statements clarifying the procedures or how the transfers are being carried out.

The camp and its surrounding areas have witnessed security tensions in recent weeks, including reported incidents of smuggling operations and the removal of families of ISIS mercenaries.
