Arrest of a network affiliated with ISIS mercenaries in Tehran

Iranian authorities announced the arrest of a network affiliated with ISIS that was planning to carry out bombing operations in Tehran. The spokesperson for the Internal Security Forces explained that the operation took place over the past few days and included several provinces, resulting in the arrest of 13 militants, including the network's leader, as well as the seizure of explosive devices and suicide belts.

The spokesperson for the General Command of Internal Security Forces in Iran, Brigadier General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi, announced on Wednesday the arrest of members of a Daesh-affiliated network in Tehran, according to the IRNA news agency.

Brigadier Montazer Mahdi said: "In recent days, through extensive and complex operations carried out by the Counter-Terrorism Unit of the General Command of the Internal Security Forces in Tehran and the provinces of Isfahan, Qom, and Alborz, a suicide and terrorist network affiliated with ISIS was uncovered and dismantled, which was about to carry out sabotage operations and plant bombs in recent ceremonies."

He added: "Through these operations, all members of the terrorist network were arrested, including 13 individuals, among them the network leader, guidance and support teams, and suicide bombers, along with devices and equipment such as explosive belts that were in their possession."

Brigadier General Montazer al-Mahdi confirmed that "more details about the dismantling of this terrorist network will be revealed in the coming days."
