Al-Darbasiyah traffic department begins implementing partial ban on motorcycles 

The Traffic Directorate in Hasaka Governorate has begun implementing a decision to regulate motorcycle traffic within the governorate's cities, effective July 1st, as part of efforts to reduce traffic accidents and enhance public safety.

In the city of Al-Darbasiyah, traffic department have imposed a partial ban on motorcycle traffic—effective daily from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM—and a total ban on the central market street, aiming to curb congestion and noise while ensuring the safety of residents.

Abdul Hamid Haj Ali, an official in the operations department of the Al-Darbasiyah Traffic Center, told ANHA agency that the decision followed an assessment of the city's situation and needs.

He explained that the ban was limited to Central Market Street, while motorcycle traffic remains permitted in other areas during authorized times; the decision was well-received by local residents.

He added that motorcycles provide a livelihood for a large segment of the population; therefore, a partial ban was adopted to allow owners to conduct their work during daylight hours, striking a balance between work requirements and the maintenance of public order.

He noted that violating the decision results in the impoundment of the motorcycle for ten days and a fine of 50,000 Syrian lira. Meanwhile, if the motorcycle is ridden by an underage person, it is impounded for three days, a fine is imposed, and the minor’s guardian is required to sign a written pledge not to repeat the violation, in accordance with applicable traffic regulations.
