Afrin Association denounces Damascus's blockade on Shahba
The Afrin Social Association denounced the Damascus government's siege on Shahba, and called on international and humanitarian organizations to intervene immediately to lift the siege, and to provide support and aid to prevent humanitarian disasters.
Damascus government forces impose a stifling siege on the Shahba areas, preventing the entry of materials and needs necessary for daily life, especially fuel, children’s supplies, food items. As a result, all service and civil institutions in the region stopped working, except for the ovens that operate with the lowest production capacity, 14,500 male and female students were deprived of education due to the siege.
Today, the Afrin Social Association in Al-Jazera region denounced through a statement, the practices of the Damascus government against the people of Shahba.
The statement was read by the member of the Afrin Social Association, Zariban Hussein, in front of the association’s building in the city of Qamishlo, in the presence of the association’s female and male members and the displaced people of Afrin.
The text of the statement read:
"The Syrian government is systematically imposing a stifling siege on these forcibly displaced people to break their will, which it prevents the entry of basic supplies such as medicine, flour, and foodstuffs, especially fuel.
In the last four days, generators have been completely stopped due to the lack of fuel in Aleppo and Shahba, in addition to the continuous bombing of defenseless civilians and their continuous targeting by the occupying Turkish state.
The Education Body in Shahba also issued a circular suspending school hours and closing them due to the lack of heating diesel and stopping means of transportation.
If the siege continues, a humanitarian catastrophe will befall the lives of the displaced, which will forcibly stop hospitals serving the displaced.
Therefore, we in the Afrin Social Association call on international and humanitarian organizations to intervene immediately to lift the unjust siege and provide support and aid to prevent the occurrence of humanitarian disasters.
