990 people arrested, 19 killed during 9 days of protests in Iran

The Iranian human rights organization HRANA, in a recent report, revealed the toll of nine days of protests and demonstrations across cities in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan, amid growing public anger over the worsening economic, political, and social conditions.

According to the report, protests were held in 222 locations across 78 cities within 26 provinces, starting on December 28, 2025, entering their ninth consecutive day while expanding geographically.

The organization stated that the Iranian authorities arrested 990 people during this period, while at least 19 protesters were killed and 51 others injured due to the use of force against demonstrators.

The report also noted the participation of 17 universities in the protests so far and highlighted that some injured protesters are avoiding hospitals for fear of arrest.

In a related development, the organization documented the torture of lawyer Nasser Rezaei during protests in the city of Khorramabad, confirming that on the ninth day of demonstrations, authorities continued to use violence against protesters and citizens.

Since December 28, 2025, Iran and cities in Eastern Kurdistan have witnessed ongoing protests and demonstrations due to escalating economic, political, and social crises, with the protests entering their ninth day and expanding in geographic scope.
