200,000 deprived of water in Kobani as Turkish shelling

 Last night, Turkish warplanes bombed the central water station in the village of Shiukh Fawqani, which supplies drinking water to the city of Kobani and its surrounding villages. As a result, the station has been rendered completely inoperative, depriving 200,000 civilians of water.

 In a statement issued today, the Water Authority of the Euphrates Canton condemned this latest act of aggression. The statement, read by the Co-Chair Zozan Mahmoud Khalil in front of the Authority’s headquarters, emphasized Turkey’s systematic war against the region’s people and infrastructure:

 " The Turkish state has intensified its attacks on our region, committing massacres against our people and systematically targeting our infrastructure. These deliberate acts are aimed at deepening the humanitarian crisis and forcing the local population into submission."

 The statement added,"On February 2, Turkish warplanes deliberately bombed the central drinking water station that supplies Kobani and its surrounding villages, cutting off access to clean water for 200,000 of our people. This is not just an act of aggression it is a war crime."

The Water Authority called on international institutions to take urgent action:

 "We urge human rights organizations, the United Nations, and the international coalition to fulfill their moral and humanitarian responsibilities. The Turkish occupation state must be held accountable for its ongoing war crimes against our people."
