Australian Senator condemns Turkish occupation attacks and calls for Turkey to be held accountable

The Australian Senator, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Justice in New South Wales, David Shoebridge, sent a letter to the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, in which he affirmed his solidarity with the Kurdish people against the attacks of the Turkish occupation.

The text of the message stated:

  “As a Green Party Senator, I am deeply concerned by the Turkish government’s continuing and persistent military offensive and human rights violations against the Kurdish people and communities living in AANES' areas.

Reports of targeting of civilians, basic facilities and infrastructure including hospitals, schools, residential areas, power stations, mosques and refugee camps are extremely sad and I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms.

I am also concerned that the Turkish government is using the devastating developments in Palestine and Israel to advance its own agenda and escalate the military offensive against the Kurdish people. While public attention is focused on the previous conflict, I would like to make clear that Turkey's violations against the Kurdish people do not go unnoticed, and I urge the Turkish government to immediately stop these brutal attacks.

The international community must condemn these attacks and demand accountability for the human rights violations and war crimes committed by Turkey against the Kurdish people.

Today and every day, I stand in solidarity with the Kurdish people and the Kurdish diaspora in Australia during these difficult times. I call on the Australian government to use its alliance with the United States and the coalition on the ground to urge them to use their diplomatic relations with Turkey to urgently raise this issue and demand an end to these attacks.
