'He was searching for the truth throughout his struggle'

Journalist and writer Sayyed Afran is one of the pioneers of the free democratic press movement and one of the pillars of free media in Kurdistan. He was martyred on September 22 after a long struggle with heart disease.

Journalist Mustafa Alo is one of the colleagues of the martyr Sayyed Afran, who brought back a number of beautiful memories of his career during the period of their work together in the Afrin region before the occupation.

 ‘From its participatory and humane characteristics’

Regarding his love of life and the collaborative relationships between his work colleagues, Alo says about the martyr Sayyed Afran: “He would wake up early in the morning to break firewood at the beginning of the morning and prepare breakfast for all the comrades present. He would wait for the comrades to start eating breakfast, as it was one of his collaborative traits.”

Regarding the most important characteristics of the martyr Sayyed, Alo said that he was characterized by humanity and participation. Alo mentioned one of the situations that expresses the humanity of the martyr Sayyed. He used to bring to the martyr Sayyed a person from the city of Afrin who has special mental needs (his name is Adnan Jindo). He asked for bread and said that he was hungry, so the martyr Sayyed got up. By giving him a loaf of bread, Adnan returns half the loaf.”

'Seeking the truth'

Mustafa Alo explained that any event was the subject of research and investigation by the martyr Sayyed. “The martyr Sayyed was searching for the truth throughout his struggle.”

Alo explained that the martyr Sayed was researching all topics and did not leave any event or topic that he did not research in order to know the complete truth about it.”

 ‘Good relations with the community and loves nature’

Alo added that one of the characteristics of the martyr Sayyed is his strong social relationships: “I do not expect there to be anyone who met Comrade Sayyed and did not like him. He communicated with the crowd and had good relationships with everyone.”

Journalist Mustafa Alo explained that the martyr Sayyed, in his life, did not like city life and loved country life and mountain life. “In 2014, a mural of Leader Abdullah Ocalan was built in one of the mountains of Bulbala district. We only went to this place despite its health conditions and the conditions of the place, and it was he climbed the mountain with a camera in his hand and wrote the news in the same place.”

Mustafa Alo said at the end of his speech, "Today, after the martyrdom of Comrade Sayyed, we will follow the path of the martyrs and embrace this struggle. What is required of us is to deepen the spirit of research, adhere to the path of the martyrs, and educate ourselves, since comrade Sayed was a trainer for everyone, and we must adopt these characteristics."
