NE Syria People commemorate first anniversary of Jina Amini’s death

The women’s councils in the Democratic Islam Conference in Qamishlo, Tabqa, Derik, and the Democratic Religious Center in Amuda district made a unified statement, and the statement was read by members and administrators of the aforementioned institutions, in Qamishlo by Abeer Shatti, in Derik by Sanaa Mahmoud, and in Amuda by Ahin Sharif, and Tabqa by Bayda Al-Ahmad.

The statement affirmed, “Today we stand in reverence for the women’s revolution that began with the killing of the young woman, Jina Amini, by the morality police on September 16, 2022.

The statement stressed, "We support the women's revolution in all parts of the world and condemn the inferiority view hidden under the cloak of the Islamic religion towards women. The Islamic religion is a religion of peace and love. It does not differentiate between male and female except through piety and good deeds. It seeks to achieve justice and equality between them and guarantees their human dignity."

Qamishlo

In this context, Kongra Star in the city of Qamishlo organized a stand in solidarity with the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Women, Life, Freedom) uprising, in front of the Muhammad Sheikho Center for Culture and Art, in which hundreds of women from different components participated in their traditional costumes.

The vigil began with a minute of silence in honor of the souls of the martyrs. Then the spokeswoman for Kongra Star in Qamishlo canton, Shaha Khalil, gave a speech in which she stressed that the women’s uprising in Rojhalat  and Iran is nothing but a spark that was inspired by the resistance of Kurdish women throughout history, and she said: “ It is a continuation of the resistance of Barin and Avista in Rojava, Shilan and Leyla in Başur, Berivan and Zilan in Başur, and Ronahi in Europe, based on the approach of this resistance represented by these female martyrs in accordance with the truth of women, life, and freedom, which was put forward by Leader Abdullah Ocalan.”

She pledged to escalate the struggle to liberate women and achieve the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The vigil ended with the chanting of “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî”.

Tel Barak

In this context, Kongra Star organized a solidarity stand in Tal Barak district of Qamishlo canton in which dozens of women, members and members of civil institutions in the district participated.

The member of Kongra Star in the Tel Brak district, Athraa Al-Hussein, gave a speech in which she remembered Jina Amini, and said: “Today we stand in remembrance of Jina Amini, who was unjustly killed because of the regime of authority.”

She added: "We condemn this criminal act against Jina Amini," stressing that "the religion of Islam is a religion of ease and does not set rules that violate women's rights, but rather stipulates that women be honored and given their full rights."
