On the eve of August 27, the Syrian Democratic Forces (QSD) launched the “Security Enhancement” operation in the eastern bank of the Euphrates River and various areas of Deir ez-Zor to eliminate ISIS sleeper cells, drug networks, saboteurs, and criminal groups.

During the first four days of the operation, 11 ISIS mercenaries and 10 drug dealers were arrested.

The leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Luqman Khalil, revealed that one of the goals of their operation is to eliminate drug networks that are distributed in the region by foreign and local parties.

3,116 dealers, promoters and abusers were arrested

According to reports issued by the General Department for Drug Control, during the period between June 26, 2022 and June 26, 2023, 6 dealers, 1,042 drug dealers, and 2,68 drug users were arrested. The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria, during the period between June 26 and August 30, arrested 53 drug dealers and seized thousands of drug pills, including:

On the 18th of last July, the Internal Security Forces arrested a drug dealer in Al-Hasakah, and seized 1,500 Captagon pills in his possession.

On July 25, the Internal Security Forces arrested a drug dealer in the countryside of Deir-ez-Zor.

On July 27, the Anti-Narcotics Forces of the Internal Security Forces arrested a drug dealer in Tabqa and seized 1 kilo and 316 grams of drugs in his possession.

On July 28, the Internal Security Forces arrested 4 people selling drugs, and seized 7 grams of crystal meth, 1 gram of hashish paste, and a number of weapons.

The General Administration for Drug Control, in coordination with the Public Prosecution, on the eve of August 16, raided a number of drug use and distribution places. This operation resulted in the arrest of 37 drug dealers, sellers, and users, in addition to the seizure of 22 Captagon pills, 300 grams of hashish paste, and 50 grams. Of crystal and a number of weapons.

On August 18, 5 people were arrested in the al-Shahba area on charges of growing and selling hashish, in addition to the seizure of 517 Captagon pills, 13 hashish seedlings, and 6 grams of heroin.

On August 23, the Internal Security Forces arrested two drug dealers in Manbij, and seized 1,51 Captagon pills, 4 grams of crystal meth, and drug paraphernalia in their possession.

On August 20, security forces arrested two people working to promote drugs in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

In addition to what was mentioned about some of those who were arrested in connection with drugs, reports issued by the General Administration for Drug Control stated that this region is one of the centers for smuggling and transporting drugs to NE, Syria, as it is located on the border between Iraq and the areas of the Damascus government, and most importantly, it is located on the road to Drug trade, smuggling and networks, in addition to several mercenary groups affiliated with foreign powers, and drugs imported from Afghanistan and Iran are being smuggled to the rest of NE, Syria through Deir ez-Zor.

A number of mercenaries who were arrested by the Internal Security Forces had previously confessed in their testimonies to the process of transporting and smuggling drugs through this route, while the mercenaries whom ANHA's agency met with court permission during their interview shed light on the areas of Hasakah.
