AANES calls on the people of Şengal to develop ways of self-protection

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued a statement in conjunction with the 9th anniversary of the Şengal massacre, which was committed by ISIS mercenaries against the Yazidis on August 3, 2014.

At the beginning of the statement:

"August 3 marks the ninth anniversary of the Şengal massacre, when the terrorist organization ISIS, with Turkish support, attacked and carried out a real campaign of genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Yazidis. This massacre, which claimed the lives of thousands, among the dead, wounded, missing and captives, continues to shake the entity of the Kurdish and Yazidi society in particular. As it is considered a continuation of the exterminations that the Yazidi community has been subjected to throughout its history, and it is the firman of the 72nd genocide, the last of which is Şengal.

It added, "Nine years have passed since this massacre, and there are still missing persons and mass graves, and until this moment, the international community is still remiss in front of the horror of what happened, as the perpetrators and supporters are still outside the grip of justice, and it has not yet been announced that what happened." In Şengal, it is a real genocide, as it must be dealt with as a targeting project that has a history and culture that has been attempted to be exterminated, which requires declaring it a systematic genocide.

The statement recalled the martyrs and victims of the Şengal massacre in 2014, and stressed that "what happened is a genocide that coincides with the series of exterminations that have taken place and are still taking place against our Yazidi people, as well as what happened in North and East Syria in terms of genocide in all areas affected by ISIS, And Turkey, through its terrorist groups, continues to complete what the organization started today, as what is happening in Afrin, Tal-Abyed and Ras al-Ain is the same level of crime and genocide.

The statement also stated: "The People's Protection Units YPG and the Women's Protection Units YPJ were able, despite the limited capabilities at the time, to open a humanitarian corridor and save thousands of the people of Şengal. Likewise, the Autonomous Administration, despite the limited capabilities, provided everything necessary to save our people in Şengal." At that time, in light of the difficulties and challenges, and until now, we still support Şengal's endeavors and efforts to liberate and build her free will.

The Autonomous Administration addressed the Yazidi community with the need to work on developing ways of self-protection, building community organization, protecting their Autonomous Administration, and searching for mechanisms for survival and self-defense against all liquidation and extermination projects, with the need for the Yazidis to return to their regions and villages and protect their history, identity and existence.

It also affirmed its continued efforts to "combat terrorism and extremism under the leadership of the Syrian Democratic Forces and work to protect the existence and rights of citizens of all components, and the continuation of our efforts in the Autonomous Administration to bring the perpetrators to justice and hold them accountable for the crimes they committed against our people."
