​​​​​​​AANES discuses with lawyers’ union to try ISIS

On the 10th of last June, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced its decision to start trial of foreign ISIS mercenaries held by it.

The Autonomous Administration is holding more than 10,000 ISIS mercenaries, who come from more than 60 countries, and those countries turn a blind eye to the fate of those mercenaries who committed massacres against the people of North and East Syria.

The spokesman for the Lawyers Union in the Euphrates region, Mustafa Muslim, spoke to ANHA’s agency about the Autonomous Administration's decision, and noted: "The Autonomous Administration's decision to try ISIS mercenaries was somewhat delayed, especially the trial of foreign mercenaries. These courts were supposed to be organized in conjunction with the military elimination of mercenaries."

Mustafa Muslim indicated that: "It was not hidden from one of the repeated appeals made by the Autonomous Administration to the countries of the world, especially the International Coalition that helped eliminate ISIS by completing its mission to support the establishment of international courts to subject ISIS members to fair trials that elevate the crimes they committed." and atrocities against humanity in both Syria and Iraq, but these calls did not receive a response from any party, except for what we used to see from time to time from delegations receiving some nationals from families and minors, and not recruits within the ranks of ISIS.

Mustafa Muslim believed that the law to be applied in these trials at the start of them; It is: "International law, given that the subjects of this trial are of different nationalities, mechanism will be found that would subject everyone to a just and acceptable law from all over the world."

Muslim believed that the Autonomous Administration: "will request observers from the United Nations to ensure the transparency of these trials and to send a correct picture of them to the world, the international public opinion, to convey these trials in a correct and unjust media manner."

On the other hand, Muslim revealed: "The Autonomous Administration addressed the Lawyers' Union in North and East Syria to provide it with proposals on the trial mechanism and how to conduct trials, given that this Body represents the legal body of the Autonomous Administration. Separate meetings were held at the level of each union separately, and at the level of the administration, to discuss this issue, including those who suggested choosing the most appropriate place geographically for the establishment of the trial, and some of them discussed the pleading mechanism and allowing lawyers.
