On Saturday, the co-chairmanship of the Executive Council of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) issued a written statement on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Sivas massacre, stating:

On July 2, 1993, as a result of a brutal attack on the Madmak Hotel in Sivas, 34 people lost their lives, including intellectuals, writers, journalists, and artists from the Alawite community. On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary, we condemn the perpetrators of this massacre, and we remember all the martyrs of the revolution and democracy in the person of those who lost their lives in this massacre with respect and gratitude, and we renew our pledge that we made to the martyrs, and that our people will certainly hold accountable the mentality of extermination that wants to strangle life through massacres, and will build a free future and bright.

The Turkish state is hostile to all peoples, especially the Kurdish and Alawite people, and aims to eliminate peoples through this enmity, persecution, massacres and all kinds of genocide methods, as it carried out the Sivas massacre for this purpose and it is a continuation of the massacres committed against the Alawites in Dersim, Marash and Gorum.

The practiced approach towards the Alawites clearly reveals the genocidal face of the state

Massacres were committed against the Alawites and they have always been a target of the authorities throughout history. It can be said that due to democratic, liberal and societal values, the Alawite community is one of the societies most exposed to massacres and genocide, as persecution and massacres against the Alawite community increased even more during the process of the nation-state, given that the state enjoys with an anti-democratic and authoritarian mentality, it sees the Alawite community as a threat to it and aims to eliminate the Alevi sect and culture through massacres. This approach of the state towards the Alawites clearly shows the face of genocide.

The mentality of the state in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan cannot maintain its survival and continue its existence except through persecution, massacres and genocide. The massacres committed against the Alawites show that the brutal and oppressive state is not only the enemy of the Kurdish people, but rather the enemy of the Alawites and all peoples. To the democratic unity of peoples and a common struggle, we believe this is one of the most important conclusions that we can draw from the massacre, as the Alawite community has important democratic knowledge and leads the society to establish democracy in Turkey, and by targeting intellectuals, writers and artists, they wanted to prevent the development of the democratic struggle.

The Sivas massacre was carried out by the state forces

The Sivas massacre is like other massacres committed against the Alawites, which were carried out by the state forces. Therefore, the state's leaders must take responsibility for the massacre and punish the perpetrators. The fact that the continuing genocidal policies against the Alawite sect confirms the state's association with the massacres.

One of the important features of the Sivas massacre is that it hindered the unity of the democratic and revolutionary struggle in Kurdistan and the democratic and revolutionary struggle in Turkey, where the revolutionary struggle in Kurdistan and the democratic popular movement positively affected the struggle in Turkey, and the Kurds and Alawites are among the basic dynamics of Turkey’s democratization, and massacres are always committed against the Kurds and Alawites In doing so, they want to eliminate the basic dynamics of democratization in Turkey.

Leader Ocalan waged an intellectual and practical struggle for the sake of the Alawites

Leader Ocalan waged an intellectual and practical struggle for both the Alawite Kurdish people and the entire Alawite community to acquire their ideological values and identity and achieve their freedom. The leader focused on the liberal and democratic values of the Alawite faith and culture and saw that reviving these values is a moral, democratic and revolutionary responsibility.

We remember our martyrs with respect

Today, the government of the Justice and Development Party and the fascist National Movement Party represent the policy and mentality of genocide, as the policies of massacres are carried out against the Kurds, Alawites, women, workers, toilers, intellectuals, writers and artists on a daily basis, so the system of isolation and torture in Imrali, the war that It revolves against the Kurds, the oppression and assault practiced against the Alawites, the genocide of women, the persecution of workers and toilers, the ban on art, and the attempt to silence intellectuals and journalists as massacres in themselves, the correct position that must be taken in the face of all massacres committed by the government of the Justice and Development Party and the National Movement Party, especially the massacre Sivas The fighters for democracy and freedom must strengthen their unity and step up the pace of the democratic struggle.
