Yusra Darwish… woman devoted her life to disseminate democratic nation principals

On Tuesday, the Democratic Autonomous Administration DAA in al-Jazira region announced the martyrdom of the co-chair of the Qamishlo Canton Council, Yusra Darwish, and the co-chairmanship of the Council, Lyman Shweish, and their driver, Furat Toma, in a Turkish attack that targeted the road linking the city of Qamishlo and Tirbespiyê district near the village of Tal Shair.

The incident of targeting the co-chair of the Qamishlo Canton Council, Yusra Darwish, the co-chairmanship of the council, Lyman Shweish, and their driver, Furat Toma, coincides with the Autonomous Administration's announcement of its intention to start prosecuting ISIS leaders and mercenaries.

Who is Yusra Darwish?

Yusra Muhammad Darwish was born in 1271 in the city of Amuda in Qamishlo canton. Mother's name: Badia Khalil.

She obtained a degree in French language and literature in 2001, before the revolution in North and East Syria on July 19, 2012.

After that, she left teaching at the Baathist regime and joined the ranks of the revolution. She worked as a teacher of the Kurdish language and then as the principal of Batoul Secondary School in Amuda. She was one of the schools’ management institutions in Amuda and was elected as the co-chair of the educational complex in Amuda.

After a long career in the educational field, she was elected co-chair of the Qamishlo Canton Council on 11/1/2022.

She was also at the forefront of activities denouncing the isolation of the leader Abdullah Ocalan and active in the liberation struggle of women in all of Kurdistan, as she directed in her speech during an event to support women candidates in the leftist Green Party, saying: "Once you discuss the elections against the tyrant Erdogan, it is a victory in itself."

Martyr Yusra Darwish devoted her life to bringing about a comprehensive societal change, and for this she worked to organize social and political activities in Qamishlo canton and to organize communes at the beginning of the July 19 revolution.

She had a prominent role in the fundraising campaign for those affected by the earthquake that struck Northern Kurdistan, Turkey and parts of Syria on the 6th of last February, where she met with various social and clan segments in order to help those affected.
