SOHR: Explosions on Syrian border areas with Jordan

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that "explosions hit the Yarmouk Basin area in the western countryside of Daraa, caused by shelling targeting sites there at dawn today, as the shelling targeted the area of the purification station in Kharab al-Shahm, west of Daraa, no information about human or material losses."

According to the SOHR, "it is not known until this moment whether Jordan was the one that bombed the area there as part of the Jordanian side's attempts to combat the drug trade, especially since Jordan confirmed that it would fight drug smuggling operations to its territory, or that the explosions were caused by Something else unknown so far.

For its part, Jordanian media reported today that strong explosions were heard on the Syrian side of the border, which they said were "caused by bombing carried out by warplanes of the Jordanian army," as they said.

The Jordanian "Kheberni" website quoted the residents as saying that they heard the sounds of warplanes and loud explosions for more than 10 minutes in the areas adjacent to the Syrian border during the early hours of dawn.

Until now, no official announcement has been made by the Jordanian government regarding these raids.

Worth to note that Oman had previously threatened to launch a military operation inside Syria to stop the flow of drugs towards the countries of the region.

The Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, hinted at the possibility of Jordan launching a military operation inside Syria, saying in statements to the American “CNN” network, that “many people have suffered from the consequences of the Syrian crisis, including Jordan,” stressing that they will be keen to do everything they can. necessary to mitigate any threat to Jordan's security."

He added, "We do not deal with the threat of drug smuggling lightly. If we do not witness effective measures to reduce this threat, we will do what is necessary to confront it, including carrying out military action inside Syria to eliminate this very dangerous threat not only in Jordan, but other Arab countries.
