KCK: targeting of Yazidis is dangerous thing

The Foreign Relations Committee of the Kurdistan Community Union (KCK) issued a statement to the public opinion regarding the provocations against the Yazidis, in which it called on the political circles in Iraq to take a stand against these wrong policies and positions and solve problems on the basis of dialogue.

The statement stated: "The Yazidis are a society that takes respect for all religions and peace between religions as their basis, and is considered one of the oldest cultures and beliefs in the world." In August 2014, they faced the ISIS massacre and the scenes of the brutal killing of thousands of Yazidi women and youth are still in the memory of the world. Although the Yazidis faced every attack in history, they protected their presence on their land, did not attack any people or religion, and knew how to live in peaceful and friendly relations with other religions.

The statement indicated that: "The campaign of indiscriminate attacks against the Yazidis has been going on for days, as one sees that there have been various attempts to provoke the Yazidis and their beliefs in different places in the past few days, especially in Iraq and southern Kurdistan, and among a group of Iraqi families who want to make them settle in Şengal." Believing that some are ISIS elements and that they have become ISIS partners and handed over the Yezidis to ISIS with a legitimate response from the Yezidi people, and the arrest of the people present by the Iraqi forces, and despite the problem being resolved, a campaign of extrajudicial attacks against the Yezidis has been launched for days. The people of Şengal have been targeted with false and misleading news and statements such as "the Yazidis burned the mosque and attacked the Sunnis." There is also a call to attack the Yazidi camps, who have been subjected to 73 massacres, are dangerous and must not be accepted.

It added, "Until now, no authority or position in southern Kurdistan has made any statement on this issue, rather they have supported positions targeting the Yazidis, and our Yazidi people fled from ISIS attacks, and took refuge in southern Kurdistan and are being held there in the camps.

The statement stated that: "They are using dirty methods to provoke the people against the position and resistance of the Kurdish people, who did not accept the Şengal Agreement on October 9."

The statement stressed, "They must know that the people of Şengal and the Kurdish democratic public opinion will not accept this, and it has become clear once again how the time has come to ensure the right and existence of the Yazidis to run themselves and to be the owners of the means of self-defense against the recent provocations and attacks."

The statement called on "all political forces, intellectuals, institutions and democratic circles, and all peaceful parties that respect the beliefs of international organizations and institutions and the United Nations, to stand against these provocations." It also called on the President of Iraq, the government and political circles to stand against these wrong policies and positions, solve problems on the basis of dialogue, confront all attacks of denial and dispossession of will, and provide support for the resistance and struggle of the people of Şengal on the basis of protecting the existence, political and cultural identity and belief of the Yazidis.
