Al-Arab newspaper: no political solution in Syria without Kurds

Although the consultative meeting that took place in Jeddah between the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Egypt, Iraq and Jordan recently, deliberately ignored Resolution 2254 regarding ways to solve the crisis in Syria, and offered an alternative to it, the prospect of Syria returning to the Arab League remained closed, according to a report by Al-Arab newspaper.

As for the political solution, according to the newspaper, it will remain pending for a very long time. The newspaper pointed out that the effort made by Saudi Arabia to make the Arab summit a key to Syria's return to the League was not in vain.

 At least, because the visit of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to Damascus, following the consultative meeting, and his meeting with Bashar al-Assad, provided confirmation that Riyadh intends to continue this effort.

The newspaper pointed out that Damascus understood the matter from its own side. Because, just as it refused to comply with Resolution 2254, it is not willing to accept the conditions put forward by the consultative meeting.

While Resolution 2254 called for "the establishment of an inclusive transitional governing body vested with full executive powers, and its formation relies on mutual consent, while ensuring the continuity of government institutions," the consultative meeting said that "the political solution is the only solution to the Syrian crisis," and defended "the importance of that there be an Arab leadership role in the efforts to end it, and to put in place the necessary mechanisms for this role, and to intensify consultations among Arab countries to ensure the success of these efforts.

The idea of a political solution means that there would be Syrian partners in this solution. While Damascus does not recognize any partners who can negotiate a solution with it.

According to the newspaper, the Syrian authorities have achieved overwhelming victories, not only against the remnants of the opposition, but they have also achieved victories over the American "conspiracy". This means that the political solution will bite into the cake of these victories, while they are complete victories in the current circumstance, and do not require change,

The newspaper emphasized that "the parties of the Syrian civil opposition have fallen victim to fragmentation, flabbiness and despair. The resumption of the search for a political solution will save them." However, the truth is that there is no solution without the Kurds, according to the newspaper, saying: "They are the only solid core remaining in the Syrian opposition due to they control about 20 percent of the Syrian territory rich in resources, including the provinces." The eastern countryside of Aleppo, Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Hasakah, and receive direct American support. Furthermore, the label of terrorism does not apply to them, because they are the ones who overthrew the state of ISIS, so they raise (obvious) political demands without which a solution cannot be settled.

The newspaper mentioned the initiative of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, which carried a program to solve the Syrian crisis on the 18th of April.
