Intensive meetings of Arab leaders; absence of others… what goes on in closed rooms?

Unusually, the last few days witnessed an Arab movement at the level of some leaders and leaders, as there were many bilateral and tripartite meetings and mini-summits that brought together some Arab leaders at close timings in several Arab capitals amid a noticeable absence of other leaders.

Observers believe that these accelerated meetings between Arab leaders reflect the magnitude of the challenges the region is going through in light of the conflicts and crises the world is experiencing.

According to experts, the absence of major countries from such meetings reflects new alliances being formed in the region.

The Egyptian researcher and political analyst, Muhammad Abadi, believes that international challenges impose on Arab leaders, to hasten in the direction of Arab integration and solidarity, pointing out that the global escalation on multiple fronts, whether in Europe, Asia or the Middle East, requires a unified and firm position on the part of Arab leaders.

He told ANHA’s agency that the Russian-Ukrainian crisis is on its way to a crisis, and in the South China Sea the situation is at stake, or the arms race between the two Koreas, and in the Middle East the verbal exchanges between Israel and Iran, against the background of the Iranian nuclear program, all of these events will affect all countries of the world, and in the heart including the Arab region.

According to Abadi, the military escalation on these multiple fronts has economic consequences that affect developing countries, which will need unconventional ideas to confront inflation and fluctuations in global markets. Therefore, Arab summits and close meetings come in this context to crystallize a unified Arab position. It is firm in the face of global military and economic crises, especially since the Arab region is full of files that need to be addressed, such as climate change, energy and food security, terrorism, the Iranian nuclear file, and the crises in Syria, Libya and Yemen and their impact on the region.

In addition to the Palestinian issue, which occupies an advanced position in the Arab priorities, in conjunction with the threats of religious parties and extremists in Israel, whether related to settlements or harming Islamic sanctities, which needs urgent solutions, to prevent the exacerbation of the crisis, and to block the way for an Israeli military escalation that harms the cause.

He pointed out that these summits highlight the Arab role on the world stage, which can be benefited from, in the role of mediation in those conflicts, as previously announced by the Arab Republic of Egypt, with the possibility of playing the role of mediator between the parties on the Russian-Ukrainian front.

New alliances

For his part, the Moroccan expert in international relations, Sabri Al-Haw, believes that these consultations reflect the Arab countries' sense of the changes in the international arena, especially with the continuation of the Russian war on Ukraine, its continuing repercussions, and the lack of clarity of vision about how and how long it will end, considering that it will end in a new world war.

He told ANHA’s agency that there are global, continental, regional and inter-agency alliances and axes that are being formed quickly, considering that the movements and meetings of the leaders of the Arab countries take place within the framework of their understanding of this, and their endeavor to be effective in order to prevent them from falling victim to these alliances.

According to Al- Haw, the holding of these meetings without the presence of Saudi Arabia, Morocco and others indicates the existence of new alignments in the region in light of the difficulties or impossibility of establishing an Arab unity at the present time.

He pointed out that the Arab countries are racing against time individually or in a multi-framework that brings together only a few in order to limit the repercussions of the new international changes, which are defined by a rapid and unstable dynamic that requires quick readings to avoid falling victim or being isolated from the world.
