On anniversary of attacks on Afrin, Al-Sinaa Prison…Calls to unite efforts against ISIS, Turkey

On 5th anniversary of the Turkey's attack on Afrin and the first anniversary of the ISIS attack on al-Sina'a prison, political parties, community and women's organizations called on the peoples of NE Syria to confront Turkish occupation and ISIS.

Tomorrow marks the 5th anniversary of the Turkish occupation army's attacks on Afrin Canton, and the first anniversary of the ISIS mercenary attack on Al-Sina'a prison in the city of Hasaka.

In this regard, the coordinator of the political parties in Shahba Canton, the Yazidi Union in Aleppo, the Yazidi Women's Union in Rojava, the Council of Martyrs' Families, the Women's Council in North and East Syria, and the Women's Coordinator in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Jazira region made statements condemning the occupation attack.

Al- Shahba

Dozens of members of political parties gathered in Shahba Canton, on Thursday, in front of the Akhin Walat Hall in the Favin district of Shahba Canton, raising their flags and pictures of the martyrs of the Resistance of the Age, and a banner that reads in Arabic, "We denounce the Turkish occupation attacks on Afrin Canton, Afrin is our dignity, we are fighters for Afrin.

The statement, which was read in both Kurdish and Arabic, referred to the crimes of the Turkish occupation state in Afrin, including kidnapping, killing, torture, looting, theft, cutting down olive trees and seizing homes and lands "with fabricated pretexts against the remaining Kurdish population in order to displace them."

It stressed that the Turkish occupation state intended to change the demographics of occupied Afrin by displacing more than 350,000 citizens and settling more than 400,000 settlers from various Syrian regions.

It explained that the occupying power aims to realize the dream of the Turkish racists in the "new Ottoman" to eliminate the will of the people of Afrin who are clinging to their land.

At the end of the statement, the coordinator of the political parties pledged to continue exposing the policies of the Turkish occupation state, and achieve a democratic, pluralistic and decentralized Syria.

In the context, the Yezidis Union in Aleppo and the Yezidi Women's Union in Rojava made a joint statement, which was read by the co-chair of the Yezidis Union, Yildiz Marco, in front of the union's office in the western part of Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood.

The statement was read in Shahba Canton, in both Kurdish and Arabic, by the member of the Martyrs' Families Council, Dulvan Alo, and thr member of the Yezidis Union, Ohin Raabaki, respectively, in the Sardam camp yard of al-Ahdath district in Shahba Canton.

The statement indicated that Afrin was a destination for all components of Syria before its occupation, as it hosted 400,000 Syrians who fled the war in their areas.

The statement said that the occupation changes the historical and demographic identity of the region by forcibly displacing its residents, erasing the Kurdish character from it, changing the religious identity in the Yazidi villages, and building mosques instead of them, " On the night of (Ezi Eid) and in the village of Basufan, in the district of Sherwa, they destroyed the tombstones of our fathers and grandfathers.”

Women's Council in NE Syria

The Women's Council in North and East Syria also issued a written statement, a copy of which we have received

The statement indicated that on Friday (January 20), marks the fifth anniversary of the start of the occupation attack on the city of Afrin. It noted that "this painful memory coincides with the events of al-Sina'a prison in Hasaka."

It stressed that the Turkish occupation state is continuing its aggressive policy, especially towards Kurdish women who have defeated ISIS.

At the end of its statement, the Women's Council called on the peoples of NE Syria and women's movements and organizations to unite and cooperate to stand up to the Turkish occupation state, and called on the international forces to put pressure on the Turkish state to end its occupation of all Syrian lands.

On Thursday, the Women's Coordinator in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Jazira region made a statement, in the presence of members of the Coordination Council, the Legislative and Executive Councils of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Jazira region, and members of the Social Justice Council.

The statement, which was read by the co-chair of the Justice Council in the Jazira region, Walaa Ali, in front of the Executive Council building in Amuda district in Qamishlo Canton, noted, "With the approach of any important event in the history of the region, the Turkish state launches attacks to occupy our cities."

It said, "With the anniversary of the establishment of the Autonomous Administrations in the regions, on January 20, 2018, Turkish fascism launched attacks on the city of Afrin and pointed out that these attacks met with unprecedented historical popular resistance that lasted 58 days.

And the statement continued, "On the fourth anniversary of the occupation of Afrin, the terrorist organization ISIS attacked Al-Sina'a prison, which contains ISIS detainees, as an attempt to liberate thousands of detained terrorists and revive this organization, whose existence was ended geographically by the sons and daughters of this country."

The statement recalled the martyrs of the Resistance of the Age and the 121 peoples' hammer campaign who sacrificed their lives in order to preserve the region from ISIS mercenaries and its supporters.

It saluted the steadfastness of "our displaced people in Afrin, who are still struggling inside our occupied regions."
