Unthinkable devastation of Zerghan- Tel Tamr schools

Turkish occupation and its mercenaries have prevented 3,596 students from completing their studies at the Tel Tamr and Zerghan districts with the start of the new school year 2022/2023.

The attacks by the Turkish occupying state and its mercenaries have caused considerable damage to the educational sector in the frontline areas of districts (Zerghan and Tel Tamer) by depriving thousands of students of education due to the destruction of their schools as a result of indiscriminate bombing and the conversion of a number of them to military headquarters.

At the beginning of the new academic year 2022/2023, after the Education Body of North and East Syria set the date for the start of students' attendance for the three stages on 18 September, the Department of Public Schools in Hasakah canton completed its equipment for the reception of the new school year in the areas of frontlines.

According to the General Directorate of Schools in Hasakah canton, among its preparations, a number of homes have been allocated as an alternative plan for schools in Zerghan and Tel Tamr, so that students can complete their education.

"The maintenance and renovation of schools in areas targeted by the Turkish occupation was postponed as a result of the ongoing military escalation of the Turkish occupation," noted the administrator of the General Directorate of Schools in Hasakah canton, Zahra Ali, speaking to ANHA’s agency.

According to the Administration's statistic, the number of students for the three stages of school is 4,526 out of 7,000 students in Tel Tamr and 2,878 out of 4,000 students in Zerghan prior to the Turkish occupation of the Serêkaniyê area in October 2019.

The total number of schools in Tel Tamr district is 126, of which 85 are currently active, 26 are occupied by Turkey's occupation and mercenary, including destroyed, and 15 are transformed into shelters of Serêkaniyê IDPs.

In Zerghan, a total of 81 schools, 40 are currently active, 35 are occupied by Turkey and its mercenaries and 6 have been converted into displaced persons' shelters.

Zahra Ali pointed out that, as a result of the continuing escalation of the Turkish occupation, the remaining schools are now targeted, noting, "Turkish occupation attacks and mercenaries on the districts of Zerghan and Tel Tamr have prevented 3,596 students from completing the educational process, in conjunction with its negative impact on students".

At the end of her speech, Zahra Ali asserted that "recreational classes for students have been cancelled, to intensify their teaching lessons, and to compensate them for absences during attacks on the region."
