​​​​​​​YPJ calls for escalation of the struggle in its 9th anniversary

General Command of Women's Protection Units issued a written statement coinciding with 9th anniversary of its founding.

The statement reads:

On the occasion of April 4, the anniversary of Women's Protection Units founding, we congratulate the leader Ocalan, and all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for freedom, all female fighters and all female freedom fighters. In the name of Women's Protection Units, we bring to the memory the martyrs who founded the revolution with their lives and became a symbol of YPJ, such as comrades Slava, Berivan, Janda, Warshen, Revan, Arin, Avesta and Sosan Berhat, also our fellow internationalists Anna Cambell, Ivana Hoffman, Jirn Gunesh, Zilan Arab and Sarya Ozgur, who faithfully adhered to leader Apo's philosophy of freedom and sacrificed their lives for free women and Rojava revolution.

We also remember our fellow prisoners in the hands of Turkish occupation state' mercenaries, we say that our struggle reach to this day because of their struggle, The establishment of Women's Protection Units is a new life page for the freedom of all women in the world.

The organization of Women's Protection Units, leading to build an army, was made thanks to the directives of leader Apo, and has a great importance to the women of the region to defend their land, and identity of a free woman. The emergence and establishment of Women's Protection Units revived hopes for a free future for all women and peoples in the region.

Women's Protection Units fought for freedom in all fields of struggle. The struggle that Women's Protection Units have undertaken over the years in Rojava, north and east Syria, is a source of hope for victory for all women and peoples in the region, Middle East, and the world. The Women's Protection Units have built their revolution over a period of 9 years on the foundations of democratic nation, environment, women's liberation ideology of freedom, and they defend their revolution within the framework of legitimate defense.

The anniversary of the establishment of Women's Protection Units on April 4 has great significance and importance, as the announcement of establishment coincided with the birthday of leader Ocalan. Leader Apo's birthday is considered the day of achieving identity, culture, existence and truth for those searching for freedom. Which leader Apo's ideas have turned into a compass that guides us to freedom. For us and for all those who demand freedom, the philosophy of freedom is like the title of our march.

Our revolution, reached this day through struggle and resistance, and will continue from today on in the same spirit, we will liberate our land from the occupiers, and escalate our revolution.

On this basis, we call on all women who struggle for freedom, and all free people to struggle together for the revolution of humanity."
