​​​​​​​Amnesty International: Kurdistan regional authorities suppress dissent and abuse law

 Amnesty International stated, in a report, “Armed parties affiliated with the authorities of the Kurdistan region have targeted activists, dissidents and their families, threatened them, kidnapped them, and extra judicially executed a number of them, prompting the survivors to flee and hide.”

 And it added, "The Kurdish authorities arrested and prosecuted individuals for these attacks, but dozens of people remained disappeared, while they sentenced activists and journalists under national security and cybercrime laws to commit acts related to freedom of expression."

 And it continued, "The security and intelligence forces of the regional government violently dispersed the demonstrators, while the armed authorities continued to prevent the internally displaced from accessing their human rights, and the authorities closed all the camps except for two, and subjected thousands to secondary displacement and collective punishment."

 “Gender-based violence in Kurdistan has increased dramatically during the pandemic, and the region’s authorities have failed to address and protect women and girls,” Amnesty International noted.
